How to choose my birth control?

Birth control pill, vaginal ring, IUD... with so many options available, how do you know which birth control is right for you? First, you have to think about your lifestyle and health, among other things: this will help you sort through them to determine which ones would best fit your daily life. Choosing the birth control that best suits you limits the risk of unplanned pregnancies!

There are several factors to consider when choosing your method of contraception:
  • Your sex life (number of partners, frequency of sexual relations, etc.)
  • Ease of communicating with our partner(s)
  • Relationship with our body
  • Our age, health, disability, sexual and gender identity
  • Side effects and their advantages and disadvantages
  • Accessibility, our budget, cost
To help you move forward in your thinking, we have prepared a list of questions to ask yourself. Remember that there are no right or wrong answers!
  • What would be my budget for contraception, and can I cover the costs?
  • Does this method fit my lifestyle?
  • If I have a partner, can I count on their support and collaboration?
  • How do I feel about touching my body?
  • What are the side effects of this method of contraception, and what effects could they have on my health and body?
  • Does this method protect me against the transmission of STIs?

Please note that if you take hormones, it is recommended that you consult a health professional who can better advise you. You can make an appointment with our nurse who offers a consultation and contraception prescription service.

Do you have questions about contraception methods or are you ready to make an appointment for a prescription? Whether you take an appointment at our offices or by videochat, we offer the service free of charge!
